I have just suffered through yet another discourse (this time on "Turandot") by a rapt and hushed-voiced Joanne Woodward on "Live at the Met." With all due respect to the lady, what are her qualifications to be telling the opera viewer what the program is all about? I am greatly irked that a person professionally associated with grand opera does not perform her role. A Hollywood movie star reading from a script doesn't get it with me.
