Investigators Monday night were searching for a deaf 88-year-old woman who disappeared earlier in the day from a residential area.
A police spokesman said Bertha Hayward was last seen at 5 p.m. in the vicinity of Bryan and Red Hill avenues. She was wearing blue slippers and a blue hospital-type gown, the spokesman said.
The spokesman did not say where the woman lived or how she had disappeared, only that she was "deaf and disoriented."
Hayward is described as being 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 125 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (714) 544-5424.
