Arcadia : Earthquake Repair Sought

February 18, 1988

The city, which has agreed to accept jurisdiction over a portion of Huntington Drive from Caltrans, will demand in writing that the state repair earthquake damage to the Santa Fe Railway bridge at Huntington and Second Avenue.

Repairs to the bridge will cost about $3,000, but Chester Howard, Arcadia's public works director, said the city does not have the expertise to do the specialized work required by the railroad and will have to hire an expert at additional cost.

Under the plan, which must be approved by California Transportation Commission, part of Huntington Drive, all of Colorado Place and part of Colorado Street will come under Arcadia's jurisdiction. Caltrans has agreed to give Arcadia $330,000 to resurface Huntington Drive as part of the deal.
