3-A Wrestling : Undefeated Trio Stays That Way

Mike Phillips of Capistrano Valley High School, Fred Jenkins of Valencia and Brett Fry of San Clemente all kept their undefeated seasons intact Saturday night with easy victories in the Southern Section 3-A wrestling finals at Rosemead.

Rosemead won the team championship with a score of 166.5. Keppel (130) was second, and Dos Pueblos (124) was third. Capistrano Valley, ranked No. 1 before the meet, was fifth with 120 points.

Phillips (43-0), the defending state champion, won his first 3-A title in 148-pound division with a 19-3 victory over Blair Green of Victor Valley. Jenkins (42-0) won his third consecutive title in 178-pound weight class by pinning Dru Anderson of San Clemente.

Fry (35-0) won his first title in the 135-pound division with a 14-6 victory over Mike Walters of Gahr.

In the 108-pound division, Capistrano Valley's Mike Macaborski pinned Adrian Martinez of Rosemead. Valencia's Sam Lopez won the 115-pound title, 9-2, over Robert Kawamura of Rosemead.

Jenkins and Macaborski were named the meet's outstanding performers.
