Junior Kristen Bevis scored a season-high 27 points to lead El Toro High School to a 59-30 victory over Estancia Saturday in a Southern Section 3-A first-round girls' basketball game at Estancia.

El Toro (22-5), the seventh-ranked team in the 3-A division, will meet Alemany in the second round Wednesday. The Eagles, the Sea View League champion, end their season at 18-8.

El Toro opened a 31-18 halftime lead on the strength of Bevis, who scored 16 of her 27 points in the first half. The Chargers increased the lead to as many as 18 points in the third quarter and were able to cruise to the victory.

"Kristen has been our most consistent player all year," said Greg Yeck, El Toro coach. "When she's hot, we try to get her the ball like we did tonight."

Estancia's offense was shut down by a taller Charger team and was outrebounded, 45-25. Shawna Newbern, Estancia's scoring leader averaging 18.7 points a game, was held to just five.

Lori Halliday added 12 points and 9 rebounds for El Toro.
