Gunfire Injures One on N.Y. Waterfront

February 25, 1988|United Press International

NEW YORK — Gunshots shattered a tugboat window and injured a captain on the New York waterfront Wednesday in the latest incident believed related to a strike by an International Longshoremen's Assn. local, police said.

No one was arrested, but detectives found four empty shells and two shotgun casings on the shore beneath the Pulaski Bridge, which links Brooklyn and Queens.

The shooting was the latest of at least a dozen incidents of violence and vandalism that have occurred since Feb. 17, when nearly 2,500 members of Local 333 went on strike against nine tugboat and barge companies.
