Prep Soccer Roundup

February 25, 1988

In other second round action:

Torrance 1, El Toro 0--El Toro outshot Torrance, 12-5, but Torrance's Deanne Call scored from 20 yards with 10 minutes remaining in the game to win at El Toro.

Call, a junior, took a pass on the right sideline and hooked a shot past El Toro goalkeeper Paige Lauby for the winning score.

"Nothing seemed to be going right for us early in the game," said Torrance Coach Tom Lytle. "We had to make a number of changes early in the game, and we just didn't attack the way we usually do."

Torrance (13-6-6) will play top-seeded Mission Viejo, a 5-0 winner over Corona del Mar, in Tuesday's semifinals.

"We outshot them, outplayed them, and totally dominated the game," El Toro Coach Bob Chavez, whose Chargers finished 9-5-10. "We controlled the match for 70 of the 80 minutes, but we had one mental lapse that hurt us."
