Burge's late layup gave Palos Verdes a 44-40 lead, which was whittled to one point when Esperanza's Jamye English hit a three-point shot seconds later.

After Palos Verdes sophomore Susan Wilhite made a free throw with seven seconds left, English missed a three-point try at the buzzer.
