The Humor Is There, but Where's Outrage at Knepper Remarks?

March 26, 1988

It seems that the worst thing that a feminist can be accused of these days is being "humorless." Well, at the risk of being labeled with that epithet, I hereby register a protest at the jocularity of the article by Mike Downey on Bob Knepper's outrageously sexist remarks.

Where is Downey's (or any other male sports commentator's) outrage at Knepper's remarks? Had they been made about blacks, Jews, or any other minority or group, these remarks would have engendered condemnation by players, coaches and commentators.

The Downey article, albeit full of clever wit and sarcasm, is depressingly devoid of genuine anger or disgust. What a pity.
