MORNING REPORT

April 05, 1988|DEBORAH CAULFIELD | Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw may be last in the ratings, but he's first in the hearts of the American people, according to a recent survey of 1,000 television viewers conducted by SRI Inc., a national marketing research company, for the weekly Electronic Media trade magazine. Brokaw, whose news show plunged from first to third when the Nielsen ratings service puts its people meters into operation last September, was named favorite anchor by 32% of those polled last month. ABC's Peter Jennings was second and CBS' Dan Rather was third. In a similar poll last summer, Rather and Jennings tied for first with Brokaw trailing far behind.
