Local News in Brief : Meeting on Equestrian Center Delayed a Week

April 06, 1988

A Los Angeles City Council committee that was scheduled to consider plans to save the financially troubled Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Griffith Park today has postponed its meeting for a week.

City officials said the Board of Referred Powers, composed of five City Council members, will meet next Wednesday to consider proposals by center president J. Albert Garcia to revive the center, which sits on property owned by Los Angeles.

The center is about $27 million in debt, officials said.

Already rejected by committee chairman Hal Bernson were plans to convert rental stalls into horse "condos" and for the building of a theme restaurant where diners would watch jousting matches.
