Press Club History

April 24, 1988

I was thinking more about Dick Turpin's column (April 10) re: the Press Club. If he had not chronicled its history, it probably would be forgotten. Only the folks in the library would remember.

When you run periodic stories by such venerable former newshawks as Rockey Spicer you do a service for Times readers in that you tie the sometimes misty past of the region to the present.

So few of today's journalists, both print and broadcast, have any point of reference to L.A.'s past. Furthermore, some of them do not know today's geography--confusing Baldwin Park with Baldwin Hills, calling West Pico the Wilshire District, etc.
