ROME — Italian journalists staged a total news blackout Thursday as part of a series of strikes to press demands for better pay and conditions.
News agencies halted services, and there were no radio or television news broadcasts. Newspapers were not published for the third consecutive day and are not scheduled to be back on the stands until Sunday.
Radio and television broadcasts are scheduled to resume today, and news agency reporters are due to go back to work Saturday.
Publishers have refused to negotiate with unions representing journalists while they are on strike.
