New Mayor Sonny Bono tells us he's hired Hollywood PR firm Mahoney & Wasserman to help make Palm Springs "the St. Tropez of America." And he's negotiating with the William Morris Agency to provide celebrities for special events, like a film festival "to rival Cannes--but don't expect me to go out and seek a Cher film!"
The warbler/actor, who makes 15,000 big bucks a year for his four-year City Hall gig, added, "I want to sell Palm Springs as a celebrity city . . . Palm Springs isn't Hollywood, but I don't see why we can't get rich and fat being associated with it."
