June 10, 1988|Clipboard researched by Susan Greene, Henry Rivero and Rick VanderKnyff / Los Angeles Times. Page designed by Doris Shields / Los Angeles Times

The Orange County Transit District conducted an On-Board Survey of its passengers on Nov. 17-20 and Nov. 24, 1987, during the morning runs. About 49,000 questionnaires were distributed on the District's fixed route and Dial-a-Ride vehicles. More than 17,000 usable surveys were returned by fixed-route passengers; Dial-a-Ride passengers returned about 1,300.

The chart below details OCTD ridership trip origins and bus boardings for the busiest cities within the system's jurisdiction. Trip origins is defined as "where riders come from before boarding the bus," while bus boardings is where riders actually get on the bus. More than three-fourths of all trip origins and bus boardings occur in the north and central portions of the county.
