The grand opening of Solstice Canyon Park in the Santa Monica Mountains will be Sunday, to correspond closely with the summer solstice.
The event will consist of self-guided walks and picnicking from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a grand opening ceremony at 1 p.m. and guided hikes throughout the afternoon until 5 p.m.
Shuttle buses will run from the Malibu Civic Center parking lot every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Private vehicles will not be allowed in the canyon.
Solstice Canyon, also known as Roberts Ranch, includes 556 acres of the original 13,000-acre Spanish land grant called Rancho Topanga Malibu Sequit. The park will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For further information, call 620-2021.
