When Taking Stock, Does Isiah Really Add Up?

June 18, 1988

If Mark Heisler really wants to know where one could find a better (point) guard than Isiah Thomas, tell him to look at some of the tapes of the Utah Jazz games against the Lakers. The name is John Stockton, and he was properly placed on the NBA second team ahead of Thomas.

Thomas may be flashier, but he doesn't bring your heart up into your throat if you're a Laker fan, the way Stockton did. He isn't as fast (in my opinion), nor does he carry his team on his back for 48 minutes a game, the way Stockton did. That Stockton never quits.
