When buying no-load stock or bond mutual funds with low sales charges, consider spreading out your purchases into monthly installments through a strategy called dollar-cost averaging. For example, instead of investing $1,000 all at once, make five $200 monthly installments. The advantage: You avoid buying when the market is at its peak.
