Seizing People's Cars Under 'Zero Tolerance' Drug Policy

June 26, 1988

Your article "Zero Sympathy" (June 21) showed a picture of a young man, Brooke Betz, standing in front of his Volkswagen Rabbit convertible. Betz was crying foul, as a friend who purchased 2.5 grams of marijuana from a street dealer was arrested and his vehicle seized.

I called it differently: "No harm, no foul!" Betz was looking for sympathy from your readers. He found none with me. But I do have some advice for Betz: If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
