The Hammer Collection

June 26, 1988

Armand Hammer has been generous as a benefactor, but what will he be remembered for? Many more people use the beaches than go to museums. Why doesn't he give that piece of land to the city as a permanent memorial to himself for preserving the beauty of our coastline forever? He could save our natural wonders and not set up oil rigs. He could educate America's youth to appreciate our parks and unique wilderness areas, which are now polluted and vandalized.
