A Los Angeles First

June 26, 1988

I read with interest your article (June 12) about the Chapman Market, in which you mention "The project, taking the 1929-vintage complex back to its roots as the nation's first drive-in market," etc.

The first drive-in supermarket in the nation was opened Dec. 17, 1927, by I.M. Hattem at 43rd Street and Western Avenue,Los Angeles.
