Waiting Latino Workers Make Laguna 'Nervous'

July 03, 1988

Oh, come on! Some women in Laguna Beach are upset that they can no longer venture into a convenience store wearing only a bathrobe for fear they will be "leered at" by Latino dayworkers seeking employment. One would think that most people have better common sense and dress more decently to at least conform to some standard of modesty.

I would certainly gawk at someone wearing a bathrobe in public, mainly out of curiosity and concern for his or her absent-mindedness. The bitter contrast portrayed in this article is pathetic and possibly comical if it was not so true and reflected the attitudes of those who do not need to worry about where their next meal or dry bed comes from.
