Diamond Bar Senior Project to Be Started

July 17, 1988

Ground will be broken this month in Diamond Bar for a 149-unit apartment, the first of five senior citizen housing projects, totaling 845 units, to be constructed by the Corporate Fund for Housing, a regional nonprofit development corporation.

The project is at the southwest corner of Highland Valley and Overlook Ridge roads. Completion is set for next April.

Financed by a $57.5-million Los Angeles County bond issue, the program will include projects in Lakewood, La Verne, Monrovia and Whittier.

Fred Kahane, the group's president, said 20% of the apartments will serve low-income residents. Rents for the subsidized one-bedroom units will be about $350 and for the two-bedroom units, from $375 to $400.

Rents for those not subsidized will range from $500 to $550 for one-bedroom units and about $650 for two-bedroom units.
