Sporting Club to Contain Most Advanced Facilities

July 17, 1988

The four-level, $25-million Sporting Club at Irvine will combine the most technically advanced athletic and conditioning facilities in a structure designed by Japanese architect Kishio Kurokawa.

Darren Hodgdon of The Sporting Clubs of America, the San Diego-based developer of the 100,000-square-foot facility at the Birtcher Lakeshore Towers complex, said construction is expected to start in August near the southwest corner of Von Karman Avenue and the San Diego (405) Freeway, in Irvine.

The firm has developed sports facilities in Denver, Washington, Atlanta and Montreal. It is a unit of the Naiman Co.

Upon its completion in September, 1989, the complex will have a lounge, cafe and executive dining room, as well as a child-care facility, travel desk, spa, salon and other conveniences.
