Jackson and the Democrats in Atlanta

July 23, 1988

What has happened to the separation of church and state?

The Rev. Billy Graham in giving his invocation pleaded with Jesus Christ, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost to help guide the Democratic Party. And the Rev. Jackson is being promised a great "say" in this government if the Democrats win. What are his qualifications?

How dare any man of the "cloth" speak and pray for me and all Americans?

There are those of us who are atheists, agnostics, and those who believe in a "higher being," but through different roads . . . and those whose right is to believe in nothing.

I hope the time will come--and soon--where no man of the "cloth" may enter politics.

One cannot honestly play the game of politics, and be truly dedicated to the "cloth." The two do not mix.
