SAN BERNARDINO — More than two dozen psychiatric technicians at Patton State Hospital, which houses the criminally insane, called in sick Monday in an apparent protest, the hospital's director said.
"All I can speculate on is that they are reacting to the monetary package in the governor's budget," said Donald G. Stockman, executive director of the 965-patient hospital. However, he could not say what specific part of the package may have spurred the protest.
The California Assn. of Psychiatric Technicians also is seeking to reopen negotiations in the second year of a two-year contract, he said.
