American conductor Michael Tilson Thomas has resigned as musical adviser and principal conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's annual summer season at the Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts. Tilson Thomas said he will conduct the orchestra in Pittsburgh. Officials of Great Woods said the center remains committed to classical music and to having the Pittsburgh Symphony there. They are seeking a successor to Tilson Thomas, who said he wanted to devote more time to two other responsibilities, as conductor of the Orchestra of the New World in Florida and the London Symphony Orchestra.
