Maywood : General Plan to Be Updated

July 28, 1988

A consultant will be hired next month to revise the city's General Plan, a blueprint for commercial and residential development that has not been updated since 1976.

The current General Plan does not reflect Maywood's redevelopment efforts, the bulk of which occurred in the last decade, said Ronald L. Lindsey, director of building and planning.

"We've really changed a lot since then," Lindsey said.

According to state law, a city's general plan must be updated periodically to address planning and zoning, seismic safety and economic development.

At Tuesday's meeting, the City Council was to have selected a consultant from among three proposals, but postponed action on the matter until Aug. 9. Lindsey said several council members needed more time to review the proposals, which range in price from $74,200 to $85,300.

Lindsey said the study will take about a year to complete.
