Controversy Over 'Temptation' Film

July 30, 1988

It is good to see Universal standing up to defend its right to produce and release the film against the pressure of so many pious, undemocratic religious leaders, who are trying to censor this film and attempting to block its release--and have even offered a bribe of $10 million to the studio to destroy the film. I can fully understand how this could happen in an Iron Curtain country, but it is hard to believe this could happen in a free society where people have the right to read and see what they wish--and in turn make their own evaluation, free of censorship by religious fanatics, who are most worried about losing religious followers and their financial support.
