Chicago Bruisers, Detroit Drive Square Off in ArenaBowl

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Chicago Bruisers started the Arena Football season with a winning burst, and the Detroit Drive finished it the same way, making them nearly equal heading into ArenaBowl '88 tonight (ESPN, 5:30, PDT).

Chicago (10-1-1) was undefeated in the first 10 weeks of the season. Detroit (9-2) has won its last eight games under Tim Marcum, who coached the Denver Dynamite to the ArenaBowl title last season.

Bruiser quarterback Ben Bennett, named the league's weekly most valuable player three times during the 12-week season, has completed 185 of 345 passes for 2,447 yards and 51 touchdowns.

Detroit quarterback Rich Ingold has completed 226 of 405 passes for 2,465 yards and 44 touchdowns.

Teammate Dwayne Dixon, a wide reciever-defensive back, leads the league with 79 catches for 1,007 yards and 20 touchdowns, the longest for 39 yards.

In addition to his catches, Dixon, had 50 tackles and 23 assists and picked off 6 passes for the Drive, which surrendered the fewest average points in the league--26 a game. He also recovered 5 fumbles.
