Your "Farewell to Nancy" editorial (Aug. 18) was a farewell to common sense.
You appear not to realize that a President's wife, not being elected by the people, has no right at all to interfere with the processes of democracy. She may still care for, and care about her partner, but not to the extent of forcing "the ouster of troublesome aides" and the like.
If she thinks the job is too much for him, the only proper course is to urge him to resign.
The attitude you express would have gone down well with Lady Macbeth, but it has no place in a modern democracy.
