The students at Wilson High School want to party. And beginning Sept. 23, they will do it every Friday night--with the blessings of their parents, the city and administrators of the Long Beach Unified School District.
DANCE--or Drug Alternative Nights and Counseling Events--is the teen-agers' way of encouraging their friends "to have fun without alcohol or drugs," Councilwoman Jan Hall said.
The weekly dances will be open only to Wilson students. But if the program works, the school district hopes to hold similar dances at other high schools, according to Hall.
