"Family Pocketbook Emerges as Make-or-Break Vote Issue," a Times front-page headline informed us (Sept. 19).
Does this mean that we are now officially a whole nation of "bottom liners"? Is "grab a buck now and to heck with everything else" to be our new national motto? We'll just ignore (or not even be aware of) the really vital long-term issues: Our ruinous national debt--the biggest in the world's history. The police-state mentality of the Nixon-Reagan Administrations which has been ignoring and slowly nibbling to death our Constitution, our Bill of Rights. The turning of our democracy into a permanent overarmed military-industrial dominated oligarchy. The deadly destruction of our environment.
