West Hollywood : Prostitution Case on Hold

September 29, 1988

The sentencing of a former business law professor whose massage parlor in West Hollywood was forced to close in February after several sex-related arrests there has been postponed until Oct. 27, Deputy Dist. Atty. Elden Fox said.

Hal Mintz, 57, who pleaded no contest to conspiracy to maintain a house of prostitution and two counts of state income tax evasion, was scheduled to be sentenced in Santa Monica Superior Court on Monday. Fox said the judge is on vacation.

Mintz resigned last month from East Los Angeles College, where he taught for 19 years and was chairman of the business department.

As part of a plea bargain arrangement, prosecutors agreed to recommend five years of probation and no more than a year in County Jail, besides any fines that may be imposed.
