Design Reviewers Sought

October 09, 1988

San Gabriel is looking for "urban design professionals" who live or work in the city to participate in a committee to review development proposals.

The 7-person architectural review committee will study plans for proposed buildings to ensure that they "adequately reflect the architectural feeling of each neighborhood," Vice Mayor Frank Blaszcak said.

Among other things, the committee should seek to preserve the motif associated with the 2-century-old San Gabriel Mission, Blaszcak said.

So far, only two architects have volunteered for the panel, City Planner Dennis Mackay said.

The city needs urban designers, traffic engineers or landscape architects to fill four of the seven positions on the committee, whose members will be selected at the next City Council meeting Oct. 18.

Candidates should send their resumes to Mayor John Tapp at City Hall. Residents are preferred, Mackay said, though volunteers who do business in the city will also be considered.
