Paramount : School Marks Centennial

October 13, 1988

More than 1,000 students, their parents, friends, teachers and guests Friday will celebrate the centennial year of Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, the oldest school in the Paramount Unified School District.

The Goodyear blimp will fly over the 100-year-old school at 10 a.m. to kick off the celebration. Leona Jackson, who is 94 and was principal of the school from 1950 to 1960, will deliver the keynote speech.

"It won't be much of a speech. It'll be about a two-minute speech to the parents. I will do it in both English and Spanish since many of the students speak Spanish," said Jackson, who lives in the community and is a volunteer teacher at the Paramount district's Adult School.
