For the third time in 6 months, Los Angeles has denied a developer's plan to build a motel next to a residential neighborhood in Eagle Rock.
The developer, Yu-Yuen Chao, wants to build a 2-story, 30-unit motel at 1871 Colorado Blvd. At a hearing in City Hall last week, Robert Janovici, the associate zoning administrator, denied the request.
He said the motel would be incompatible with plans to turn the street into a pedestrian-oriented shopping area. A land-use plan for the area is being developed by a citizen's committee and Los Angeles city planners.
Chao had twice scaled down his plans. An original proposal for a 53-room, 3-story structure was denied because it exceeded the height limit for the site.
