'Nana': Dollars, Sense

October 21, 1988

I was somewhat amused by the article in View about Martha Pulliam, Dan Quayle's grandmother, and about his comment during the debate that she said you can do anything you set your mind to work for ("Quayle's a Delight to His Wealthy, Whistlin' 'Nana,' " by Itabari Njeri, Oct. 10).

I'm not surprised that she couldn't specifically remember the advice she gave her grandson. I think rather she might have told him he could do anything he sets his mind to pay for.

I'm sure he had as little identity with the working people then as he has now.
