October 23, 1988

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (Z Monday at 1 p.m.): Newly restored to its original running time, Sam Peckinpah's 1973 Western emerges as a classic of the genre. James Coburn and Kris Kristofferson have the title roles. (2:02)

It Happened One Night (Channel 13 Friday at noon): One of the most enduringly enjoyable movies of all time, with Clark Gable's breezy reporter and Claudette Colbert's runaway heiress meeting on a bus bound from Florida to New York. One of Frank Capra's greatest from 1934. (2:00)

The Bat Whispers (Z Saturday at 1:15 a.m.): Roland West's incredibly stylized 1930 thriller, shot in 65 mm, recently has been restored by the UCLA Film Archives. A rare vintage treasure. (1:22)

The Picture of Dorian Gray (Channel 5 Saturday at 1:30 a.m.): One of the most sophisticated Hollywood productions of the '40s, director Albert Lewin's film of the Oscar Wilde story is memorable not only for Hurd Hatfield's performance in the title role but also for one of Angela Lansbury's earliest screen appearances.
