Ailing Redell Shoulders Brunt of Crespi Offense

Crespi's Ron Redell dislocated a shoulder against Muir 3 games ago, but his performance has not suffered.

In Crespi's first game after his injury, Redell completed his first 9 passes against Alemany for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns. Last Friday, against St. John Bosco, he completed his first 8 passes for 75 yards. In 2 Del Rey League games, Redell is 22 of 27 for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Passing: Village Christian's Drew Martenson threw his first interception of the season against L.A. Baptist on Saturday. Martenson has completed 41 of 85 for 603 yards and 8 touchdowns. . . . After completing 26 of 60 passes in his first 5 games, Camarillo quarterback Wes Nathaniel was 24 for 35 for 238 yards against Roosevelt.

Records: Taft's Kelvin Byrd set a school record by scoring 32 points in Friday's 35-21 win over Chatsworth, breaking the mark held by Donald Dozier (1986). Byrd also tied Dozier's record for touchdowns in a game with 5. . . . At 7-0, Village Christian is the only undefeated Southern Section team in Division IX, which consists of 7 leagues and 41 schools. The Crusaders are off to their best start in school history.

Defense: During its 1-2 start, Thousand Oaks allowed 264.7 yards per game against Chino, Buena and Canyon. In 4 consecutive victories since, the Lancers have allowed an average of 76.3 yards against Camarillo, Westlake, Simi Valley and Royal, which have 6 wins among them.

Receiving: Fourteen of Moorpark's 29 players have receptions. Only Matt Cummings, with 13, has more than 10.
