Cummings, a 22-year veteran, is in charge of a $36-million project to centralize the Fire Department's dispatching system. Hanson, a 26-year veteran, heads the administrative services bureau. Zeason, a 27-year veteran, commands the operations bureau.
The other finalists are P. Michael Freeman, assistant chief of emergency operations for the Dallas Fire Department, and Carlos E. Perez, chief of the bureau of emergency medical services for Metropolitan Dade County Fire and Rescue Services in Florida.
