The Glendale City Council introduced an ordinance Tuesday that would ban skateboards from the city's business districts.
The ordinance would strengthen an existing law that prohibits roller-skating in business areas but allows the use of other "skating devices."
Under the proposed ordinance, skateboards would still be allowed in residential neighborhoods and in parks where signs are posted permitting their use.
City Manger David Ramsay said the proposed ordinance is neces
sary because skateboarders have damaged city property and "have been riding dangerously close to pedestrians for fun."
The council is scheduled to consider the ordinance at its next regular meeting Tuesday.
