Surely, letter writer Merry Shelburne's question of "7 million morons" purchasing Def Leppard's album was rhetorical (Letters, Dec. 18). The record hardly compares to Tracy Chapman's debut album. "Hysteria" (sic) is poorly conceived, written, performed and recorded.
Merry should know that morons have contributed greatly to "impressive sales statistics" in many areas, including music, advertising, fast food, television, politics, crime, etc.
