A 38-year-old Fullerton man was killed and two others injured Sunday night when the Jeep in which they were riding collided with a car driven by a suspected drunk driver, authorities said Monday.
Carl Codispoti died at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Anaheim shortly after the 6:30 p.m. accident at the intersection of Via Lomas de Yorba West and La Palma Avenue in Yorba Linda, Brea Police Lt. Chet Panique said.
Codispoti was riding with three other people in a Jeep Cherokee when they were struck by a Honda Accord driven by Vance Vivens, 27, of Monterey Park.
Vivens was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony drunk driving and was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail. Vivens and three others traveling with him were not injured, Panique said.
Two other passengers in the Jeep, Shelly Lynn Peterson, 28, of Orange, and Patrick Evers, 38, of Yorba Linda, were taken to hospitals with various injuries. Peterson was reported in serious condition at Placentia-Linda Community Hospital in Placentia and Patrick Evers in critical condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
The driver of the Jeep, Terry Evers, 33, of Yorba Linda, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and released on his own recognizance. However, he was not considered at fault in the accident and he was not injured, Panique said.
