January 26, 1989

The cost of city ambulance service is going up in Long Beach. The City Council has approved an increase in the Fire Department's ambulance charges that will raise the basic fee from $110 to $151 per call, while also increasing mileage rates and oxygen service charges.

City officials have said the rate increase is necessary to keep up with increased demand for ambulance services brought about by Long Beach's growing population. The new rates will add about $750,000 a year to the city's paramedic budget.
