Outtakes

Just for Kicks

February 05, 1989|John M. Wilson

Since we're on Chuck: A local journalist tells us about trying to get an interview with the flag-waving karate champ last year for a piece in male-oriented Gallery. The conservative Norris was "adamant" in turning the scribe down, saying he doesn't do interviews with Playboy, Penthouse or other skin magazines.

So how would he explain that Q&A--"Chuck Norris: I Want to Be Sensitive"--in the March issue of Genesis, along with sexually explicit articles and a buxom cover girl in a lacy black bra?

Norris, filming "Stranglehold" in the Philippines, was unavailable for comment. But his lawyer-manager, Mike Emery, was surprised about the Q&A and furious that Outtakes was inquiring about it.

"We don't do anything of that kind," he said, before hanging up on us. "Why would you even want to call attention to this?"

A Genesis insider said the magazine buys much of its material from "independent writers who conduct interviews and then sell them where they can get the most money, or whatever."

Meaning Norris may have gotten tricked into this one.
