WASHINGTON — Eight Mariel Cubans ordered deported by special federal review panels were flown back to their homeland Thursday, the Justice Department announced.
The Cubans were being flown aboard a government plane from Birmingham, Ala., to an airport outside Havana, said Joe Krovisky, a Justice Department spokesman.
