With the rush to enact assault weapons bans and restrictions following last month's Stockton shooting in which a man armed with an AK-47 rifle killed five youngsters, the director of the California Film Commission is mounting a campaign to preserve the right of film makers to use or simulate the use of assault weapons in entertainment programs. Lisa Rawlins is seeking waivers in 10 anti-assault weapons bills before the State Legislature, arguing that weapons are used in a controlled fashion in making films.
