Borrowing Big Bucks For Construction

Commercial and residential construction has flourished in Orange County for the past decade, but 1988 was a record-breaking year. Construction loans totaled $4.6 billion last year, up 39% from 1987's $3.3 billion mark, and the outlook for 1989 looks even more robust. December, 1988, was the strongest month ever recorded for construction loans in the county. And, according to a TRW Real Estate Market Information official, only spiraling interest rates can slow the momentum. Here's a look at where the money was spent around the county:
