Community College Baseball : Trachsel Pitches, Fullerton Wins : His 8-Hitter Leads Hornets Past Rancho Santiago, 4-2

Steve Trachsel pitched an eight-hitter to help Fullerton College to a 4-2 victory over Rancho Santiago in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday at Rancho Santiago.

Trachsel (2-3) struck out six and walked two. Joe Parga had a two-run single in the first for Fullerton (8-10, 3-4), which never trailed.

John Mele had an RBI single in the fifth to put Fullerton ahead, 3-0.

Greg Martineau hit a solo home run for Rancho Santiago (11-8, 5-2) in the fifth. In the seventh, Rob Bailey had an RBI single in the seventh for Fullerton, and Tim Reynolds had an RBI single for Rancho Santiago. Willie Navarrette (4-3) took the loss.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Orange Coast 15, Cypress 9 (10 innings)--Orange Coast (14-6-1, 4-3) was helped by five Cypress errors for its fourth consecutive conference victory. Cypress made two errors in the ninth to allow OCC tie the score, 9-9, and force extra innings.

Dennis Burbank (6-3) took the loss for Cypress (15-7, 4-3) and Eddie Pierce (2-0) got the victory for OCC. Pierce also had three hits and an RBI, and Marty Cordova had three hits and two RBIs for OCC. Pierce is eight for nine in two conference games against Cypress this season.

Cypress had runners on first and second with one out in the ninth but Jason Friedman lined into a doubleplay. Friedman had singled earlier to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.

Riverside 9, Saddleback 9 (10 innings, darkness)--Freshman Ted Savage singled up the middle with two outs and two strikes in the ninth to drive home the tying run for Saddleback (9-5-1, 2-4-1). Saddleback loaded the bases with one out in the 10th, but Brent Ferguson hit into a double play.

Riverside opened a 7-0 lead after two innings but Saddleback scored five runs in the sixth to tie it, 8-8. Derek Gingerich and Jeff Walters had three hits and an RBI each Saddleback. Ferguson also had three hits. Savage had two hits and three RBIs for Saddleback.
